1. Introduction

RunAI Intelligence Pvt. Ltd. ("Company", "we", "us", or "our") operates The Astro Nova mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.

We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011 ("IT Rules"), the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act") of India, and the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") of the European Union where applicable.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account information: Name, email address, and profile photo (via Clerk authentication)
  • Birth details: Date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth — required to generate accurate Vedic astrology charts
  • Chat messages: Text and voice inputs you send to our AI astrologer personas
  • Payment information: Subscription and transaction details processed through RevenueCat (Google Play Billing on Android, App Store on iOS). Full card numbers are never stored by us — they are handled by Google, Apple, or our payment processors per their PCI-DSS-compliant standards.
  • Support requests: Information you provide when contacting our support team

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device information (model, OS version, unique device identifiers)
  • Usage analytics and app interaction events (via PostHog)
  • IP address and approximate location (country/region level)
  • App crash reports and performance data (via Sentry)

2.3 Location — Important Clarification

  • Birth place coordinates: Latitude and longitude are entered by you during onboarding (city / region picker). They are required to calculate accurate Vedic astrology charts (house positions and planetary aspects depend on geographic location).
  • No GPS or device location: The app does NOT request the ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION or ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION Android permissions. We do not perform real-time location tracking, background location collection, or GPS lookups at any point.
  • IP-derived region (analytics only): PostHog may infer your country and region from your IP address for aggregate analytics. This is country/region-level, not precise, and is not linked to your birth-place coordinates.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Generate personalised Vedic astrology charts, readings, horoscopes, and predictions
  • Power AI-generated astrological chat and content using Anthropic Claude AI models
  • Authenticate your account and maintain your session
  • Process subscriptions and in-app purchases
  • Send notifications related to daily horoscopes, transits, and Dasha periods (with your consent)
  • Improve the Service through aggregated analytics
  • Respond to support requests
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. AI Processing

Our Service uses Anthropic Claude AI to generate astrological readings and power chat conversations. When you interact with our AI features:

  • Your birth details and chat messages are sent to Anthropic's API for processing
  • Anthropic processes this data according to their Privacy Policy
  • AI-generated content is for entertainment and guidance purposes only and should not be treated as professional advice
  • We do not use your data to train AI models. Anthropic does not use API inputs to train their models.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Neon Postgres cloud databases with servers located in the Asia-Pacific region. We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256)
  • Row-level security on database tables
  • Authentication tokens managed by Clerk with secure session handling
  • Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments
  • Offline data cached locally on your device using encrypted SQLite storage

6. Third-Party Services

We share data with the following third-party services, each operating under their own privacy policies:

  • Clerk — Authentication and user management
  • Anthropic (Claude AI) — AI-powered readings and chat
  • RevenueCat — Subscription management on top of Google Play Billing (Android) and the App Store (iOS)
  • OpenAI Whisper — Voice-to-text transcription for voice consultations (when the voice feature is used)
  • ElevenLabs — Text-to-speech generation for voice responses (when the voice feature is used)
  • Google Places API — Birth-place autocomplete and geocoding (city → latitude/longitude)
  • PostHog — Product analytics (you can opt out — see Section 10)
  • Sentry — Crash and error reporting (you can opt out — see Section 10)
  • Upstash Redis — Rate limiting for API requests (only stores anonymised request counters)
  • Neon — Cloud database hosting
  • Cloudflare — API hosting and CDN
  • Apple App Store / Google Play Store — App distribution and in-app purchases

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Specifically:

  • Account and birth details — retained until you delete your account
  • Chat history — retained for 12 months, then auto-deleted
  • Analytics data — aggregated and anonymised after 24 months
  • Payment records — retained as required by applicable tax and financial regulations (minimum 8 years under Indian law)

Upon account deletion, we will erase your personal data within 30 days except where retention is required by law.

8. Your Rights

Under Indian Law (DPDP Act, 2023)

  • Right to access your personal data
  • Right to correction and erasure of your data
  • Right to grievance redressal
  • Right to nominate another person in case of death or incapacity

Under GDPR (EU/EEA users)

  • Right to access, rectification, and erasure
  • Right to restrict or object to processing

  • Right to withdraw consent at any time
  • Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

9. Children's Privacy

The Astro Nova is designed for users aged 13 and older (16+ in the EU/EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below that age threshold.

The Google Play / App Store content rating (12+) is the primary age-verification mechanism. Account sign-up via Clerk additionally collects an email address, which provides further age-gating in jurisdictions where Apple/Google enforce it.

If a child account is discovered: Upon notification (via support@astronova.app) or our own detection, we will (1) acknowledge receipt within 48 hours, (2) immediately suspend the account, and (3) permanently delete all associated personal data within 7 days. We comply with the US COPPA, the UK Data Protection Act, the EU GDPR Article 8, and the India DPDP Act 2023 § 5 in respect of children's data.

10. Analytics, Crash Reporting & Your Controls

PostHog (product analytics): Tracks screen navigation and feature interactions. All events are tagged with app_source: "mobile" to distinguish them from website events. We do not collect device advertising IDs (IDFA / GAID) — Apple App Tracking Transparency lifecycle events are explicitly disabled.

Sentry (crash reporting): Captures crash stack traces and performance diagnostics. Events are tagged with app_source: "mobile". Sentry is disabled in development builds.

Your control: Analytics are enabled by default. You can disable them at any time in Settings → About → Analytics Consent. Disabling takes effect immediately and does not affect any other app functionality. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

Cookies (website only): Our website uses essential first-party cookies for session and preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

11. International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in the following countries by our service providers:

  • United States: Anthropic Claude AI, OpenAI (Whisper), ElevenLabs, Sentry, PostHog, Cloudflare (CDN/edge)
  • European Union (Ireland): Clerk authentication infrastructure
  • Asia-Pacific (Singapore / India): Neon Postgres database (your primary record), Upstash Redis (rate limiting)
  • Global edge network: Cloudflare Workers (API serving)

Safeguards: Where personal data is transferred outside India or the EEA, we rely on (a) Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) with our processors, (b) the processor's self-certified privacy commitments (e.g. Anthropic's API Terms prohibit using customer data for model training), and (c) our own contractual data-processing addenda where required by the GDPR or the DPDP Act 2023.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
